Saka Vs Hata set for OPBF title on June 1st

0 3
Earlier today we saw two bouts being announced for the June 1st edition of WHO's NEXT DYNAMIC GLOVE on U-NEXT Vol.17, and they are two really interesting bouts, with one promising fireworks and the other expected to be a tamer, more technical affair.

The more exciting of the two bouts, and the main event of the show, will see Kosuke Saka (23-7, 20) [坂 晃典] defending the OPBF Super Featherweight title against fellow puncher Yamato Hata (14-2, 13) 波田 大和 in a bout that will see two huge punchers each looking to prove they are the bigger puncher.

Of the two Saka is the more well known and more established, being a 2-weight Japanese national champion and 2-time OPBF Super Featherweight champion. During the course of his 30 fight career he has scored notable wins against Shota Hayashi, Masanori Rikiishi, Masaru Sueyoshi, Takuya Watanabe, Tsubasa Narai and Ken Koibuchi. Sadly though he has also proven to be a glass cannon, with 5 of his losses coming inside the distance, including defeats to Yuna Hara, Yoshimitsu Kimura, Joe Noynay, Takenori Ohashi and Hiroshige Osawa.

As for Hata he is a former JBC Youth Super Featherweight champion who has won 11 of his last 12 bouts, with his sole loss being a split decision to Yuna Hara in 2022. During his career he has beaten the likes of Shingo Kusano, Ryusei Ishii, Konshin Takeshima and Yoji Saito. His only stoppage loss came in his 4th professional bout. Notably he is a boxer-puncher, whilst Saka is more of a pure puncher, and it could be that he has a more rounded skillset than the champion, though is certainly less proven.

The other bout announced for the show is an 8 round Featherweight between the unbeaten Junya Shimada (6-0, 2) [嶋田 淳也] and Yuya Hirose (9-3-1, 4) [廣瀬 祐也]. Hamada made his debut in 2021, and has impressed, beating the likes of Shigetoshi Kotari, Claudevan Sese and Jetro Pabustan, and is now banging on the door of a title fight in the not too distant future. As for Hirose this is a step up in class for him, but he comes in on the back of a win over Chihiro Iwashite back in February, and he will clearly be full of confidence for this bout thanks to that win.
