WBO order purse bids for Andrade Vs Alimkhanuly

0 26
At the end of November the WBO announced that their Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (31-0, 19) was to make a mandatory defense of this title against unbeaten Kazakh Janibek Alimkhanuly (11-0, 7) [Жанибек Алимханулы], and made it known that they had given the two sides time to negotiate a deal.

It appears now that no deal has been reached with the the WBO now ordering purse bids for the fight, with those purse bids now set for January 14th.

The WBO shared a letter, that was sent to Top Rank and Matchroom, outlining the situation, and the fact they had also extended the original negotiation window for the bout, but that no deal had been agreed.

The bout has a minimum bid amount of $200,000 with the bout to be split either, 75-25 in favour of the champion or 80-20 in the champion's favour, depending on whether the bout is held in the US or not. If it's in the US Andrade will take home 75% of the bid, whilst if it's outside of the US that will increase to 80%. That would mean Andrade would be guaranteed $150,000 whilst Alimkhanuly is assured $40,000. The reality however is that the bid is likely to be well above the minimum.

Despite the purse bids being called there is also a very real possibility of Andrade vacating the title to join the Super Middleweight ranks, where he would instantly become one of the highest ranked WBO contenders. If that were to happen it would open the door to a more attractive fight for the American, and see Alimkhanuly fighting for the vacant title, potentially against Jaime Munguia or Esquiva Falcao, with the Falcao bout being an easy one to make.
