Jayson Mama to get crack at Sunny Edwards?

Last year we were supposed to see Filipino fighter Jayson Mama (16-0, 9) get a show at IBF Flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane in South Africa, before the bout was cancelled on the week of the bout due to issues between the promoter and the South African boxing authorities. As a result Mama missed out on his shot at the South African legend.

Rather than that bout be re-arranged Mthalane and his team arranged a deal to travel to England to defend against Sunny Edwards (16-0, 4), who easily out pointed Mthalane this past April.

Now it appears that Mama maybe on the verge of getting a shot at Edwards and the IBF title, with talk that he will challenged the unbeaten Englishman in September in the British capital of London.

If this is finalised, as expected, the bout will serve as Edwards' first defense of the title that he took from Mthalane, and will see him looking to bolster his career, whilst also working towards another mandatory, against the very exciting Ricardo Sandoval.

As for Mama this would be his first world title bout and his first bout outside of Asia. He has travelled before, scoring wins in Macau and China, but this is a big step up from those bouts, which included a win over former world title challenger Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr.
