Mayweather-Paul exhibition targeted for June

The pair initially intended to fight in February

Yesterday saw Floyd Mayweather reveal that his seemingly abandoned exhibition match with Logan Paul was back on, and further details appear to be trickling in. Mike Coppinger reports that the exhibition match will land on a June 5th Showtime PPV, pitting it head-to-head with Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. on Triller, while a more recent TMZ article claims it will instead take place June 6th in Miami while admitting that the date “is not set in stone.”

Per Coppinger, “Mayweather can’t weigh more than 160 pounds, while Paul cannot weigh more than 190.” It will be Mayweather’s (50-0, 27 KO) second exhibition since stopping Conor McGregor in his last pro bout, as he mauled Japanese kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018.

I’ve already said my piece on this sort of thing; it is, as they say, what it is. Both men figure to make boatloads of money regardless of the outcome, and Paul’s (0-1, 0 KO) considerable youth and size advantages at least offer a selling point beyond “watch one of the modern greats spank an eminently hateable YouTuber.” And if it’s on a Sunday, thus avoiding any direct conflicts with major fights while simultaneously serving to draw casual viewers towards them? All the better.
