Williams: It’s my time to become world champion against Andrade

The British contender says he’s as ready as he can get for April 17.

Liam Williams is confident that he’s fully prepared to face Demetrius Andrade, which he’ll do on Saturday, April 17, challenging for Andrade’s WBO middleweight title in a DAZN main event from Florida.

“If I’m not ready now, I’ll have to have a serious think if I ever will be,” Williams wrote on Instagram. “I’ve worked unbelievably hard and cut no corners. It’s my time to become world champ, 100 percent.”

The 28-year-old Williams (23-2-1, 18 KO) is on a really good run of form since moving up from 154 and settling in at 160, winning his last five fights at that weight, all by stoppage. He’s beaten Mark Heffron, Joe Mullender, Karim Achour, Alantez Fox, and Andrew Robinson, bulling through the last four inside of five rounds, with only Fox going past the second.

But there’s no question that Andrade (29-0, 18 KO) represents a huge step up in class from those guys. The 33-year-old “Boo Boo” will be a significantly harder stylistic challenge, and also just in pure ability. He’s a much better boxer than those guys.

Williams can be counted on to give it his best effort, though. He’s an aggressive, entertaining fighter who has barked a long while to get this fight, and now he’s got it, coming in with no excuses and making clear he’s as ready as he can be.
