Porter still interested in fighting Crawford

The welterweights have had their names linked for some time now, but neither have seemed enthusiastic about facing one another.

Former welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter has been known to be looking at another shot at the WBC title, currently held by Errol Spence. Both Porter and Spence fought last fall with Spence edging it on the cards, but with Spence not currently interested in a potential rematch with Porter, Porter is turning his attention to another welterweight titleholder — Terence Crawford.

Speaking on the subject, Porter mentions that he’s unsure if promotional companies will be willing to work with one another right away after this quarantine period, although if they are willing, he’s up for a big fight:

“I don’t know if the respective promotional companies want to come back with doing their own thing, but if they happen to talk and want to make a cross-promotion, and if it’s someone like myself and Terence Crawford, I would love to do that.”

Now a potential Crawford-Porter fight isn’t exactly new news as the idea has been floated since late last year, picking up and losing some steam along the way. One of the biggest obstacles seemed to have been the fighters themselves, as both Crawford and Porter have a personal friendship and haven’t seem thrilled about the prospect of fighting one another if there were other places to look. But with Top Rank starved for notable opponents for Crawford and Porter looking for another world title shot, there’s only so many places to go.

With Porter appearing to be at least a little more engaged in a potential fight against his buddy, perhaps this will start to pick up a little more traction in the coming weeks.
