Dustin Poirier would love rematch with Conor McGregor

“I’d love it at welterweight. I’d love it in a boxing ring. I’d love it in MMA. I’ll take it at 185 [pounds], I don’t care.” 

After Dustin Poirier takes care of business against Dan Hooker, ‘The Diamond’ is looking to secure the ‘biggest fights’ available, preferably starting with a rematch against former UFC two-division champ Conor McGregor, who beat Poirier via first-round TKO back in 2014.

Speaking to MMA Fighting in a recent interview Poirier, who hasn’t fought since his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, said he is going to push for a fight with McGregor and is open to challenge the Irishman in MMA or boxing.

“I’ll fight Dan Hooker no problem, but my job is to get the biggest fights, the most money, get the highest ranked opponents that I can get. So whenever I see people and opportunities that make sense, like me and Conor, of course I would push for that,” Poirier said.

“It just depends on what the UFC has in mind and Conor’s timeframe when he wants to fight,” he added. “A lot of factors play into all this decision making. But I’m definitely open to the fight.”

Poirier went on to suggest a possible boxing match with UFC rival Nate Diaz.

“I’d love to box Nate Diaz or McGregor in the Octagon, or in the boxing ring,” Poirier said.

Diaz hasn’t fought since his TKO loss to ‘BMF’ champ Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244, while McGregor is currently training in self-quarantine in Ireland amid the coronavirus pandemic. ‘The Notorious’ last fought at UFC 246 where he disposed of Donald Cerrone in arguably his best performance to date, finishing ‘Cowboy’ in just 40 seconds of the opening round.
