Truax had been trying to rehab the injury since March

I think it’s safe to call Caleb Truax vs. Peter Quillin a cursed matchup at this point. The rematch, scheduled for an August 31st PBC on FOX card in Minneapolis, is off due to a Truax ankle injury. “Golden” reportedly tore his right Achilles tendon in March and “was attempting to rehabilitate the injury instead of having surgery” before ultimately withdrawing.

Though Erislandy Lara vs. Ramon Alvarez was technically the headliner, it’s safe to say Minnesota native Truax (30-4-2, 19 KO) was the main attraction for the local fans. This would have been his third consecutive fight at The Armory; back in April, he and Quillin (34-1-1, 23 KO) got to fight for six minutes before a clash of heads caused a fight-ending cut on Truax.

PBC has a couple of options to fit into the vacant FOX slot; my money’s on freakishly huge super welterweight Sebastian “Towering Inferno” Fundora’s bout with Jamontay Clark, though there’s also top Filipino prospect Reymart Gaballo’s bantamweight fight with Yeison Vargas. Truax-Quillin was definitely the sole bright spot on an otherwise forgettable card, but on the bright side, it was always going to be overshadowed by Lomachenko-Campbell anyway.
