0 7

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Karl Roberson beat Wellington Turman with a split decision Saturday night on the main card at UFC on ESPN+ 13 in Sacramento, Calif.

Take a look inside the fight with Roberson, who has alternated wins and losses since coming to the UFC.

Result: Karl Roberson def. Wellington Turman via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Updated records: Roberson (8-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), Turman (15-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC)
Key stat: Roberson landed twice as many strikes as Turman, but Turman more than doubled up on Roberson in ground control time.

Roberson on the fight’s key moment

“He was a tough opponent to adjust to. I was coming in for a banger, not just someone who is good at jiu-jitsu. Sometimes it’s difficult to change your mindset. It was my fault for going into his game too much, but I’m proud of myself for getting it done.”

Roberson on finally beating a Brazilian

“This was a hard one and I had to push through. Everyone was saying I only have kickboxing and need to work on my jiu-jitsu. Tonight, I got to show I have jiu-jitsu. I was 0-2 against Brazilians, so I wasn’t coming in here to lose. My coach is going to tear me a new one for getting caught in those clinches. Sometimes you’ve just got to bite down and push through. That’s what I had to do today.”

Roberson on what he wants next

“I’m looking for a tougher fight to move up in the division. My boy Brad Tavares always comes to fight. I want to give one for the fans. Uriah Hall is another one. I want to fight someone who likes to stand up and get flashy. I want one of those guys.”
