Covington: ‘Sheep lover’ Khabib endangered innocent people during brawl

Colby Covington criticizes the UFC 229 post-fight brawl involving Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor, and their respective cornermen.

Even after two months since it all went down, the UFC 229 post-fight brawl remains to be a hot issue. Recently, Michael Chiesa reportedly demanded for all of Conor McGregor’s earnings from the said fight card worth more than $50 million, which all stemmed from the UFC 223 bus attack in Brooklyn last April where it is all rooted to.

The now infamous incident had left a bad taste in many people’s mouths. It is something that controversial loud-talking welterweight fighter Colby Covington recognizes, but believes it is also what appeals to fight fans of today.

“At no point can it get bad for MMA. We were at our lowest point when that sheep-lover Khabib jumped out of the cage and put innocent people’s lives in danger,” Covington said in a recent appearance on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “Everything sells these days.”

“I think that people live in safe spaces these days, they don’t want to deal with the controversy and the drama. But at the end of the day, all this drama and controversy, this is what everybody wants, this is the drug that they’re needing.

“They’re addicted to this,” he added. “I’m addicted to winning, they’re addicted to drugs and other things, but they’re also addicted to this fight and the controversy that sells this fight. So I don’t think you can go too far promoting these days.”

With that in mind, Covington is so far satisfied with the form of self-promotion he has chosen to run with.

“When I fight, people are going to watch me fight,” he said. “They’re not gonna turn the channel to ‘Real Housewives of OC’ like they will other fighters. There’s not anything that doesn’t promote and you can’t go too far in this business.”

“Everybody’s calling me out. Why do you think everybody wants to fight me? I’m the money fight. I’m the biggest draw. I do the biggest numbers in this division and it’s not even close. There’s a reason all these guys want to fight me. They don’t want to fight Tyron Woodley. Because I’m the biggest fight and the biggest draw in the division.”

Covington has so far made a name for himself for his brash words, and according to him, people have yet to see more.

“I’ve only hit the tip of the iceberg. I’ve got so many tricks up my sleeve, you haven’t even seen my promotional tactics yet. Just wait ‘til what I have in store in the future.”

“Chaos” is currently being slated to fight Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title sometime in early 2019.
