The main event of PBC on Fox saw Jermall Charlo pull off a hard fought win over the tough Matt Korobov. Charlo took home the unanimous decision win, including one rather wide scorecard.

Charlo vs. Korobov was a late change to the card, as Charlo was originally to headline against Willie Monroe. Korobov made the most of his call-up, giving Charlo a serious fight. In the early rounds, the southpaw Korobov controlled the action with a nice body attack and a left hand that was consistently landing. But as the fight progressed, Korobov seemed to fade as Charlo came on stronger, landing big combos and pushing the action on the tiring Korobov.

The 12th round was the fight’s most definitive, with Charlo hurting Korobov badly early in the round to put an emphatic stamp on his performance.

Overall, it was the kind of fight that elevates both men. Charlo dealt with early adversity, but came back to win. Korobov showed that he’s a smart, skilled fighter who is a potential spoiler any night.

Of course, this being boxing, there was a bit of controversy to the scorecards, as one judge had the score 119-111 Charlo. I had Charlo winning 115-113. There certainly were a number of close rounds that could go either way, but it’s tough to think of giving only one round all fight to Korobov. But that off card will be forgotten because it still went to the right man, and it was far (FAR) from the worst card on the night.

With this win, Charlo is now 28-0. As the interim WBC champion, the talk is that he will now be ordered by the WBC to face Gennady Golovkin. Korobov takes the second loss of his career and now stands at 28-2.
