Oquendo out, Dinu reportedly in against Miller

0 5

Jarrell Miller may have his Nov. 17 opponent.

With Eddie Hearn looking to bring Jarrell Miller back on a DAZN card on Nov. 17 in Atlantic City, there were two floating questions.

Who will face Miller, and will the WBA’s secondary “world” heavyweight title be on the line?

To answer the second question, it looks like it will be, as mandatory challenger Fres Oquendo is out of the running after turning down a $500,000 offer due to concerns about VADA testing on such a short time frame. And with Oquendo out, ESPN reports that Romania’s Bogdan Dinu has been offered the fight, and has accepted.

If Miller (22-0-1, 19 KO) agrees to terms, he will face Dinu (18-0, 14 KO) for the vacant secondary belt, which would eventually set up a showdown with Anthony Joshua, a fight Miller says he wants badly. Both Miller and Joshua are promoted by Hearn.

If the fight does come together in the next couple of days, it’s expected it will be formally announced on Saturday in New York, before the Jacobs-Derevyanchenko HBO event, which Hearn is also promoting.

Miller, 30, is coming off of an Oct. 6 win over veteran Tomasz Adamek, a matchup that was panned when it was signed, and turned out rightly so. Dinu, 32, was already in camp to face Tom Little on Saturday on the Pulev-Fury card, but would pull out of that bout if this one gets finalized.
