White will not punish McGregor over bus attack: He’s been through enough

“Suspended? He hasn’t fought in 2 years. How much longer should we suspend him?”

Now that Conor McGregor’s legal troubles are behind him, UFC president Dana White is keen to get the ball rolling on UFC 229’s superfight between ‘The Notorious’ and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

White announced the bout during the promotion’s 25th anniversary press conference on Friday.

Fans can’t wait to see Khabib vs. McGregor, which is poised to be the biggest fight in MMA history, but some feel McGregor got off lightly in court over his bus attack earlier this year at Barclays Center in New York.

The Irishman pled guilty to disorderly conduct during a court hearing last month and is required to pay restitution for damage to UFC property and conduct five days of community service, as well as one to three days of anger management evaluation. McGregor walked away without a criminal record and is free to fight in the US.

When asked if the UFC would be taking any further action against the former featherweight and lightweight champion, White told TMZ Sports that McGregor had already been through the legal process and has lost millions of dollars out of his own pocket.

“Suspended? He hasn’t fought in 2 years. How much longer should we suspend him?” White responded. “He’s obviously lost lots of money. Millions of dollars in what went down in New York. What more could we do to him? He went through the legal process and got what he got. That’s it!”

McGregor is expected to challenge Nurmagomedov for the lightweight strap at UFC 229. The blockbuster pay-per-view takes place on October 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
