The former world champion from Oakland who retired in September, is getting back in the ring — albeit as a promoter of amateur fights. In connection with the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff’s Activities League Boxing Academy, Ward is sponsoring a card Saturday at Hayward Adult School that is expected to feature at least 20 bouts. “Amateur boxing is where I got my start and it’s extremely important to me to stay connected with the young boxers currently competing in the sport and to provide any knowledge and inspiration I can give them,” said Ward, who will start the day with a meet-and-greet at noon. Tickets are $15 general admission, $25 ringside.
