Dana White: UFC will deal with Conor McGregor after law punishes him

For now, the fate of Conor McGregor is out of the UFC’s hands.

One of the sporting world’s biggest stars, McGregor won’t be competing in the Octagon or in a boxing ring anytime soon as he deals with the fallout of his bizarre and violent appearance in Brooklyn on April 5 that saw him attack a bus full of fighters in an attempt to get at rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. The incident led to injuries to fighters Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg, forcing their withdrawal from UFC 223.

McGregor is facing multiple charges of assault and UFC president Dana White told TMZ Sports that it’s up to the New York legal system to deal with McGregor before the promotion can even begin considering sanctions on the former two-division champion.

“He’s gotta be punished by the law first,” White said when asked how officials were handling the McGregor situation. “Let’s see what happens in New York.”

He could not offer a timetable for when McGregor will compete again. The 29-year-old fighter is expected to return to court in June.

White was also asked if a potential fight between McGregor and current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov could take place in Moscow. While White is excited about heading to Nurmagomedov’s home country, he’d prefer to host McGregor’s next appearance in Las Vegas.

“If you do a fight that big, you’ve got to do it in Vegas,” White said. “Khabib will fight in Russia at some point, but it won’t be that fight.”
