Dillian Whyte vs. Robert Helenius set for Joshua-Pulev undercard

0

Whyte has fought just once since December

Spurned by Dominic Breazeale, Dillian Whyte will instead face Robert Helenius on October 28th for the WBC “Silver” title, which means absolutely nothing but vaguely implies some form of seniority in the lineup of potential Deontay Wilder foes.

Helenius (25-1, 16 KO), whose 2011 knockout of Sam Peter made him a feared prospect before a controversial win over Dereck Chisora and a knockout loss to Johann Duhaupas brought him crashing back to earth, is doing a rather impressive job of rising through the ranks while doing nothing. He was originally set to face WBC #8 Chisora in a rematch earlier this year, but instead gets to fight #3 Whyte.

I think I speak for all of us when I say Helenius wasn’t the member of that matchup I wanted to see against Whyte.

The rest of the card includes a WBA super flyweight title bout between champion Kal Yafai and challenger Sho Ishida, plus Katie Taylor in her first world title bid. Top prospects Lawrence Okolie and Joshua Buatsi do not yet have opponents.
