Hennessy on Parker-Fury decision: Someone is up to no good

0

Promoter Mick Hennessy says he has no doubt that Hughie Fury deserved the win over Joseph Parker.

Last Saturday Hughie Fury challenged Joseph Parker for his WBO heavyweight title, but on the official scorecards, Fury came up short. Many couldn’t believe, however, that Parker could take two 118-110 scorecards, especially when those people believed Fury deserved to win in the first place. Promoter Mick Hennessy is among them, telling RingTV:

“I was absolutely furious,” said Fury’s promoter, Mick Hennessy, in an interview with RingTV.com. “From ringside, I felt so comfortable close-up that Hughie had won. Parker’s punches were missing, or hitting elbows, or hitting gloves. Hughie kept sticking him with the jab, he was meeting Parker with the straight right hand and he couldn’t miss with the right uppercut.”

Then when addressing the fact that Fury could’ve helped his own case by being more active during the fight, Hennessy replied that that is indeed the case, but that he still believes — along with many others who were sat ringside — that Fury won by a considerable margin.

“Really there’s no words without getting yourself in trouble,” Hennessy said after some deliberation. “I’m not sure what’s behind it. There must be some sort of agenda. Something has gone on behind the scenes or someone is up to no good. Someone has influenced this situation and that’s my honest opinion.”

“I want to get to the bottom of it. For me, this is about running people out of the game, or it’s about setting up big money fights in the future. Look at what’s happened with Tyson (Fury) since he won the world title. If you look at this whole UKAD situation. I believe there is a huge agenda out there and there are powerful people behind it. There’s something untoward going on and when all this UKAD stuff comes out in the open, people will begin to realize that.”

The reference to the Tyson Fury case is one that brings up the fact that the UKAD had delayed their hearing on Fury’s failed drug tests which has prevented him from getting his boxing license back. Tyson Fury has, on more than one occasion, accused the powers that be in British boxing of corrupt practices that have unfairly targeted him for being an Irish Traveller.

But as far as Hughie Fury goes, some members of his team are said to have lost faith in the system, believing that even if they were to get another shot at Parker, the same thing might happen again.
