Dana White says he ‘talked’ with Tyron Woodley after champ demanded apology

According to UFC president Dana White, he and welterweight champ Tyron Woodley have “talked” following White’s criticism after UFC 214 and Woodley’s demand for a public apology.

Things between Dana White and Tyron Woodley have calmed down — at least for now.

White, the UFC president, criticized Woodley’s performance in his third welterweight title defense against Demian Maia, which served as the UFC 214 co-main event last Saturday in Anaheim, Calif. White no longer wanted Woodley to fight Georges St-Pierre next, despite what he said earlier that week, and returned to the initial plans of middleweight champ Michael Bisping vs. St-Pierre.

Woodley vs. Maia was a slow-paced, five-round chess match. Woodley showed off his incredible takedown defense, stuffing all 24 of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace’s attempts over 25 minutes, and snapped Maia’s seven-fight winning streak. “The Chosen One” outpointed the challenger on the feet, but the fight did break the UFC record for least amount of strikes thrown in a five-round fight.

Woodley was happy with his performance, as he did what he had to do to defeat one of the trickiest welterweights on the roster. But he didn’t take White’s criticism kindly.

Woodley demanded a public apology from White in an interview on Monday’s The MMA Hour and threatened to leak “some sh-t” if he isn’t given one.

White has yet to publicly apologize, but he did tell TMZ on Tuesday that he had a conversation with the 170-pound champ following their back-and-forth.

“Woodley and I talked and he said he was just pissed and upset and didn't mean it,” White said.

Woodley is on a six-fight unbeaten streak, which includes two fights (one draw, one win) against Stephen Thompson and a knockout title victory over former champ Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 in July 2016.
