Shinsuke Yamanaka vs. Luis Nery set for August 15th in Japan

0

This will be Yamanaka’s thirteenth title defense

Top bantamweight prospect Luis Nery is going for it. “Pantera” is set to challenge division emperor Shinsuke Yamanaka in hostile territory on August 15th. The fight will be broadcast on Box Azteca and, while not yet confirmed, likely take place in Tokyo.

Save for a scare against Raymond Tabugon wherein he got overexcited and clipped by a right hook, Nery (22-0, 16 KO) has smashed all comers, including former interim super flyweight champ David Sanchez and multi-time title challenger Richie Mepranum. He was last seen in March, stopping Jesus Martinez in four on a card that also featured Juan Francisco Estrada.

Yamanaka (27-0-2, 19 KO) is a whole other beast, of course. “God’s Left” has defended his WBC title twelve times, eight by knockout, and still packs some scary power despite turning 34 last October.

This may be too much, too soon for Nery, but he’s an excellent talent and Yamanaka has shown some vulnerability in recent years. Definitely worth tuning in for.
