Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - The ruling bobsleigh and skeleton federation IBSF on Friday apologised for an incident involving its vice-president Adam Pingilly of Britain who has been ordered to leave the Pyeongchang Olympics. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Pingilly, a former skeleton slider, was told by the IOC to leave the Games immediately over a dispute with a security guard. The IBSF said in a statement it has "with regret" taken notice of the incident, would conduct its own probe and that its president Ivo Ferriani "took the opportunity this morning to officially apologise to the Organizing Committee."The IBSF wants to state that the work of the volunteers and the security staff at the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang is essential and very much appreciated by all athletes, officials and staff," the IBSF said.Pengilly‘s term as an IOC member is over when the Pyeongchang Games end on February 25. Two years ago he was the only IOC member to vote against an IOC decision not to impose a blanket ban on Russia for the Rio 2016 Games in connection with doping practices.
