Olympics star Ingrid Tandrevold collapses on her skis in dramatic finish of biathlon 10km pursuit at Winter Games
NORWEGIAN star Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold sparked major fears for her health after she collapsed at the finish line of Sunday’s biathlon 10km pursuit at the Winter Olympics.
The 25-year-old was firmly in the hunt for a medal before a terrifying final lap led to her doubling over on her skis towards the end.
Several of her rivals gained ground on the exhausted Tandrevold, who eventually crossed the line in 14th place before collapsing to the ground.
She appeared to be motionless as officials and medics quickly raced over to her.
After a delay, Tandrevold was then helped to her feet and away from the course.
Norway’s Marte Olsbu Roeiseland, now a three-time gold medalist, won the race with fellow countrywoman Tiril Eckhoff claiming bronze.
But the race was marred by the scary scenes involving Tandrevold – which is the second time in the space of three days that she has collapsed at the finish at the Games.
She also needed help following the 7.5 km sprint two days ago on Friday, where she finished fifth.

Team manager Per Arne Botnan confirmed that she was conscious shortly afterwards but could not offer any further details on her condition.
He said: “I don’t know anything more than that she is awake and being taken care of by the doctor inside the heating booth. That’s all I know.
“It puts a damper on a gold and a bronze that we can’t celebrate much yet until we know what it’s like with Ingrid.”
Team doctor Lars Kolsrud confirmed that Tandrevold had been conscious throughout the situation, saying: “She tried everything she did to catch up with [silver medalist Elvira Oeberg] and simply ran out.”
Tandrevold has previously struggled with atrial fibrillation – an irregular heart beat – but Kolsrud indicated that was not a factor.
He added: “We measured it a little bit and we were able to measure heart rate. She was conscious all the way.”
Thankfully a further update on her condition has now been released and eased concerns over her condition.
The doc said: “[Ingrid] tried to follow Elvira and she hardly came to the finish. She was exhausted, so disappointed but not unconscious.
“She has stressed herself, she is eating and drinking now. I guess it’s the cold and the altitude.”
