BACKGROUND Venues for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games

Berlin (dpa) - An overview of venues to be used at the February 9-25 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games.Pyeongchang Mountain ClusterLocated around 180 kilometres east of Seoul in the Gangwon province. Here is the 35,000-capacity Olympic stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies along with the television and media centres.Olympic Sliding Centre: 7,000 capacity for luge, bobsleigh and skeleton. Newly constructedAlpensia Biathlon Centre: 7,500 capacity, built 1998Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre: 7,500 capacity, built 1998Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre: 13,000 capacity, built 2009Jongseon Alpine Centre: 6,000 capacity for alpine skiing (downhill and super-g). Newly constructed Yongpyong Alpine Centre: 6,000 capacity for alpine skiing (giant slalom, slalom and alpine combined), snow cross and snowboard banked slalolm.
