[Men's Basketball] Georgia standout, C.J. Smith, is newest to join ONU Men's Basketball

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — ONU men's basketball has recently added to its 2017 recruiting class. Head coach Ralph Hodge and the Tigers have added 6'1" point guard, C.J. Smith, from Cumming, Ga. He had an outstanding career at Forsyth Central High School.

Hodge is excited to add such a talent as Smith, who he plans to play as a point guard starting from day one. Smith had an outstanding senior season leading his team, averaging 20 points per game and five rebounds. He also had 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 45.0 percent from behind the arc and 85.5 from the free-throw line. C.J. scored a 31 points against South Forsyth and had 27 points and six rebounds against rival, Lambert High School.

Following a tremendous senior campaign, Smith was named to Forsyth County Player of the Year and Most Improved Player in the State of Georgia. He was also named First All-Region for 5A-7A. Smith was also selected to play in the North Georgia Tip-Off Club Senior All-Star Classic.

Also, during his high school career he played AAU for the Atlanta Timberwolves. Smith played in the Phenom Hoops Showcase in North Carolina and other top tier tournaments.   

Smith plans on studying Business Management while at Olivet. He graduated with honors from Forsyth Central. He was awarded the Will Davidson Memorial Scholarship for community service and academic achievement. He also was given a scholarship from Northside Hospital for his character on and off the court. C.J. was also selected to receive the Forsyth County Slugfest Scholarship for the best student athlete.

C.J. and his family attend Good Shephard in Cumming and he has participated in a mission trip to West Virginia.
