UFC Fight Night 109 results: Full fight winners and reaction from Gustafsson vs. Teixeira
Alexander Gustafsson may be looking at another title shot after a huge win over Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109.
Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira combined for a thrilling five-round battle at UFC Fight Night 109, but in the end, it was the former who came out on top with a huge knockout punch 1:07 into the fifth round.
Gustafsson was in control of the first four rounds, scoring a few knockdowns of Teixeira while working a varied striking attack from range. Teixeira absorbed way more damage than any one man should and in the final round, Gustafsson landed three straight right uppercuts, followed by a right hook that put him down.
The card was held in Stockholm, Sweden, hence the special Sunday event and the early start time. Gustafsson was able to win big in front of his home crowd and will now be very interested to see who wins in the light heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
The penultimate fight on the card saw another very impressive knockout from Volkan Oezdemir. He took a stiff straight to the jaw right at the start of the fight with Misha Cirkunov, but backed up as his opponent swarmed him. Cirkunov threw wild swings that Oezdemir avoided before delivering a short right to the side of the head that instantly knocked Cirkunov out. It took just 28 seconds in the first round for Oezdemir to get his win.
In the first main card fight, Sweden’s Jack Hermansson dominated Alex Nicholson en route to a first round TKO. He took back mount and rained down punches until the referee stepped in to stop it. After that, the home crowd was disappointed by an Oliver Enkamp unanimous decision loss to Nordine Taleb at welterweight.
Omari Akhmedov won a split decision over Abdul Razak Alhassan on the main card, but the welterweight contest wasn’t actually that close. The sole 29-28 in favor of Alhassan was puzzling, as Akhmedov controlled the fight and landed several takedowns while absorbing very little damage. He did ultimately get the win, which is the important part, however.
On the preliminary card, there was plenty of action. Pedro Munhoz, the No. 12-ranked bantamweight, headlined the prelims and won a unanimous decision over Damian Stasiak. Prior to that was the most lopsided fight of the card, when Trevor Smith earned two 10-8 rounds over Chris Camozzi in a middleweight contest. Smith won the fight by unanimous decision.
Below is the full play-by-play of the main card and below that is the full slate of results from Sunday’s action in Sweden.
