Orlando Magic reportedly hire Jeff Weltman as president of basketball operations
The Magic let go of GM Rob Hennigan in April.
The Orlando Magic have hired Jeff Weltman, general manager of the Raptors, as their new President of Basketball Operations, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. After a meeting on Monday, the Magic and Weltman have reportedly agreed to a five-year deal.
The Magic let go of general manager Rob Hennigan in April, who had been with the team since 2012. During Hennigan's tenure, the Magic went 132-248. The move was quickly followed by rumors that the Magic were interested in bringing David Griffin from the Cavaliers to their front office. It was reported that when the Cavaliers season ended, the Magic would offer the position to Griffin, but it appears they did not want to wait that long.
Weltman will now have the opportunity to hire a GM for the Magic before the season begins. Weltman has been with the Toronto Raptors front office since 2013 and was the assistant general manager in Milwaukee for five years before that.
