Kawhi Leonard doubtful for Game 2 vs. Warriors despite negative MRI results

He is listed as doubtful for Game 2.

Kawhi Leonard’s MRI on Monday morning revealed there was no structural damage to the ankle he reinjured on Sunday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright. Leonard hurt his ankle twice in Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors, the first time tripping on his own teammate’s foot and the second time in a controversial fall involving Zaza Pachulia.

Pachulia extended his foot in a dangerous manner, which caused Leonard to land awkwardly on it. He left the game directly after that in the third quarter and never returned. Gregg Popovich referred to the recklessness of the play in comparison to manslaughter, citing a punishment needed for Pachulia despite his intentions.

Leonard’s absence helped the Warriors go on a 16-0 run and come back to win Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.

Wright also reported that Leonard is officially listed as doubtful for Game 2, meaning he most likely won’t be on the court. But no structural damage is a good sign that just maybe he can return before this one is over.
