Who would say " No " to signing Chris Paul in FA ?

0

HUGE hypothetical.

The Clippers were eliminated in a home game 7 vs. the Jazz in the first round of the playoffs. The Clippers in the last 6 years have never advanced past the 2nd round of the playoffs and have been eliminated in the 1st round 3 times now. To me it looks like the current iteration of the Clippers team has peaked and barring them singing LeBron, Wade and Carmelo (somehow), they are no longer championship contenders ( if they ever were, just saying). Now, the pundits will point to injuries and ask you to believe that in a weird alternate universe there is every hope in the world, I don't see it. It's possible that Griffin, Paul or Reddick will leave the Clippers in free agency this year, and DeAndre Jordan is a free agent again next summer.

Why not ?

I would advocate signing CP3 to ANY kind of contract he wanted. 1+1 max ? Sure ! Max Max ? Sure ! Let's go !

I would actually advocate signing any of the top tier free agents to any kind of deal they want this summer, but only the top tier if possible.

Okay, it's time to laugh because, what top tier free agent would want to come here ?

In a nutshell, Paul George, which hinges on retaining the top 3 pick to trade for Paul George, which in turn hinges on the Pacers willingness for said trade. If the Lakers are going to have any remote shot of signing a top tier free agent then they need to already have a major talent on the roster to be intriguing. So much will be determined at the draft lottery soon and no matter the outcome, it will have huge ramifications on the rebuild.
