An Update as the Season Ends

0

Hello, everyone, and thank you for your support this season as I unveiled the NBA History Project I worked on last summer and, over time and with your helpful feedback, improved it. (Also, thank you for your support when my first account got banned. That was fun.) Using all of that data that I collected, I wrote a lot of things this year:

And, of course, the great Fear the Sword community was very supportive. We had some great moments (trade deadline day, when I was online all day during class and Cols was the... voice of reason?) and some low moments (anytime we talk about the Celtics). Schoolwork caught up with me and I went more dormant than I would like, but I am doing well, so Cols doesn't need to worry.

Now that the end-of-regular-season thanks are out of the way, I have a few things to share. As many of you know, I update my NBA History data on Monday mornings. However, with the league's final regular season games being on Wednesday, April 12th, I am not going to update the data until Thursday morning so that it is complete. That way, the only updates that will be required are the outcomes of the playoffs and the MVP race.

I have a full-season recap that I have outlined and ready to write after the data is updated. I expect this to be ready to post on either Easter or the day after. It's going to contain a TON of data and information to highlight what was an exciting regular season. This will take the place of an end-of-season power ranking, which would be insignificant considering only 16 teams will be playing on. I will leave that to Bacon^2's huge playoff preview he is working on, which should be awesome. Pressure is on you.

The massive Excel workbook that I am currently using as the database for my Tableau will be getting a major upgrade this summer/during the playoffs. Through Ohio State (where I am a student if anyone missed that), I can get Microsoft Access for free, which is powerful database software for people who do more important things than I. However, it will suit my needs very nicely, so I will be transferring the data into an Access database. This will allow me to perform more advanced queries and find more specific data. I will also be able to handle much more data, so there may be exciting new changes coming in the form of new information available to me.

Finally, I would like to ask for everyone's help in pressuring EVR to release rec data again (as he has teased) so that we can argue about ourselves once again. Just don't go overboard, because he is a real person with a real life and may not have the time to do it. If he can, I will remake the rec statistics during the playoffs so that everyone knows where they need to improve so we all can flip the switch and improve our comment content during the playoffs.

Thanks for reading and thanks for reading all season. Go Cavs!
