After a blowout loss in game 1 of the second round the Philadelphia 76ers will now face a pivitol game 2 without their star big man.
76ers center Joel Embiid has been ruled out for game 2 after missing team shootaround with ankle and hip soreness, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Embiid has struggled with injuries throughout his career and this season has been no different. Most recently the 7-footer underwent surgery to treat appendicitis and has dealt with lingering knee and ankle injuries.
In game 1 against the New York Knicks, Embiid and the 76ers suffered a 137-98 loss. The game’s large deficit meant that Embiid sat a significant portion of the game, only logging 24 minutes.
Now, he will continue to rest through game 2 with the hope of being ready to play when the series shifts to Philadelphia for games 3 and 4. Of course, the hope for Philadelphia is when he does come back the team is not staring down an incermountable deficit in the series.
