Report: Tempo sign Allemand to official deal plus six more training camp deals
The newly formed Toronto Tempo have been busy over the last few days, getting free agency underway with deals for Marina Mabrey and Brittney Sykes. Today, they got things going with another signing as they inked pen to paper with Julie Allemand, their second overall pick during the expansion draft.
The Belgian point guard is a former third-round pick by the Indiana Fever, as she was drafted in the 2016 season, but has missed a ton of years in the WNBA due to playing in the Belgian league. For her career, she’s featured in 81 games, averaging 5.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.
For the training camp deals, Nikolina Milic was the first name announced as she was taken with the 19th overall pick in the expansion draft. The Bosnian center has played two seasons in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx, averaging 5.9 points per game, 2.7 rebounds and can knock down threes, shooting a career 31.8 percent beyond the arc across 70 games.
Lexi Held was the next name announced for a training camp deal as the 10th overall pick of the expansion draft is entering her sophomore season after a 32-game outing in the previous season with the Phoenix Mercury, where she averaged 5.3 points across 14.7 minutes per game.
Kristy Wallace, the 23rd overall pick of the expansion draft, also got a camp deal, as she was originally drafted back in 2018 by the Atlanta Dream in the second round. She’s missed a ton of time due to injury and has featured in just 3 seasons officially and averaged 6.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 92 outings for her career.
Maria Conde, the 13th overall pick of the expansion draft, is no stranger to expansion drafts, as she actually went second overall in last year’s expansion draft to the Golden State Valkyries, as well as originally being drafted in the third round of the 2019 draft by the Chicago Sky, but she has yet to register any WNBA minutes officially. She’s had some impressive seasons overseas with the Wisla Can-Pack and CCC Polkowice teams in Poland, with back-to-back seasons of 10+ points per game from 2018 to 2020 and just missed out on the 10-point mark in the following 2020/21 season with an average of 9.7 points with the USK Praha of the Czech Republic.
Laura Juskaite is yet another player who has yet to make her WNBA debut, as she was not selected in the expansion draft, but she has earned the right to make the Tempo’s first team. The Lithuanian most recently played for CBK Mersin in Turkey, as she averaged just shy of 13 points per game in 27 games across two seasons.
Lastly, Elizabeth Balogun was also not drafted in the expansion but had a solid collegiate career across two seasons with Duke, as she averaged 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
