California transfer Dai Dai Ames commits to Tennessee
By JAMES MADDEN
Tennessee has landed a commitment from California transfer guard Dai Dai Ames, his agent Adam Papas confirmed to ZAGSBLOG. Ames visited Tennessee on Friday and also originally scheduled visits to Xavier, Ole Miss and Kansas, but has committed to the Volunteers before taking those visits.
A 6-foot-2 guard, originally from Chicago, he has played at three programs in three years, including beginning his career at Kansas State and Virginia, before transferring to California.
In his junior season with the Bears and his only in Berkeley, Ames averaged 16.9 points and 2.2 assists per game, shooting nearly 38% from deep.
After being gutted by most of the rotation transferring or graduating, with the exception of Nate Ament who will likely declare for the NBA Draft, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes has landed the Volunteers’ second transfer portal pickup of the spring.
The Volunteers also landed Belmont transfer and reigning Missouri Valley Player of the Year Tyler Lundblade, who committed at the end of March.
