Tennessee transfer JP Estrella commits to Michigan
By JAMES MADDEN
Tennessee transfer JP Estrella has pledged a commitment to reigning NCAA champion Michigan.
247Sports’ Travis Branham first reported the news.
Estrella’s commitment comes three days after Michigan captured its second NCAA championship in program history, defeating UConn 69-63 in Indianapolis.
Estrella, a 6-foot-11 forward originally from Maine, averaged 10.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game on nearly 60% shooting for the Volunteers this season.
In his three seasons at Tennessee, Estrella appeared in 61 games, including just three games his sophomore year due to a season-ending foot injury.
Estrella’s pledge to Michigan kicks off the Wolverines’ transfer portal activity, which is an area it thrived in last offseason, leading to the program winning its second national title days ago.
Michigan head coach Dusty May said on television this week that he turned his focus to transfer portal recruiting as soon as the team and staff arrived back in Ann Arbor following the Wolverines’ national championship.
In less than a week, Michigan has landed a commitment from a top-20 transfer and five-star guard Brandon McCoy Jr, as the Wolverines look to repeat their national championship next season.
