Quick Reaction: Heat 95, Raptors 119

0 1

Jakob Poeltl / A- / 26 MIN,17 PTS,6 REB,3 AST,8-13 FG,0-0 3FG,1-3 FT,1 BLK,1 TO,4 +/-

He was actually quite effective tonight, especially early. I really noticed him on the floor early – he nabbed 3 rebounds in the first quarter alone. He crashed a fair amount in the back half of the game, and it made a difference. I honestly was really happy with his play tonight.

Scottie Barnes / A+ / 30 MIN,25 PTS,8 REB,5 AST,10-16 FG,2-2 3FG,3-4 FT,1 BLK,1 TO,7 +/-

He had a lot of unlucky chances, but he looked great as always tonight. He crashed to the basket a lot tonight, and only hit a few threes, but other than that, he was definitely on his game tonight.

Immanuel Quickley / C / 18 MIN,3 PTS,4 REB,4 AST,1-3 FG,1-2 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,2 +/-

Quick was subbed out early, but made a much bigger impact in the second quarter. His passing was solid tonight, especially in the second quarter, with a great no-look dish to Scottie for a dunk. His scoring wasn’t really there, though, as he only made one three-pointer the entire game. It’s nice to have him back in the lineup, but only one three and low shooting splits doesn’t impress me.

Brandon Ingram / A+ / 29 MIN,23 PTS,6 REB,3 AST,9-16 FG,3-5 3FG,2-2 FT,0 BLK,3 TO,11 +/-

Ingram was extremely effective scoring wise off the bat. 5 points, a rebound and a steal by the 7:25 mark. BI also looked good from all angles; he has shot well from three, from the midrange, and has gotten a few looks in the paint, too. He ended up with 16 at the half and was a reliable bucket to go to from the midrange option.

RJ Barrett / C / 31 MIN,16 PTS,8 REB,2 AST,7-16 FG,0-3 3FG,2-3 FT,1 BLK,2 TO,16 +/-

I didn’t really notice RJ a lot tonight, but he was a silent contributor. He led the starters in offensive rebounding and was overall solid. His scoring wasn’t perfect, but it was there. He could not hit a three tonight, but went 6 for 15 from the field.

Sandro Mamukelashvili / B / 22 MIN,11 PTS,5 REB,1 AST,4-9 FG,2-4 3FG,1-2 FT,0 BLK,1 TO,23 +/-

His shooting from the field was a little bit subpar until late in the second half, but his shooting from beyond the arc was good all game. He crashed the glass a little bit, but overall, I’m happy with what he did.

AJ Lawson / Inc / 3 MIN,0 PTS,1 REB,0 AST,0-2 FG,0-0 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,1 +/-

Had a nifty euro-step to the basket that got blocked, but other than that, mainly played garbage time.

Jamal Shead / A / 24 MIN,3 PTS,1 REB,11 AST,1-4 FG,1-3 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,3 TO,27 +/-

My belief in Jamal Shead continues to pay off, as he looked much more confident on the floor tonight. Once he was subbed in midway through the first, he immediately went to his bread and butter: passing. He notched double-digit assists once again and made a lot of different passes that I really liked. Had a lob, made a lot of smart passes to the baseline, and set a lot of guys up for key buckets. I wish he scored a bit more honestly, but having a pass-first guard set up a lot of scoring threats like he did tonight is fine with me.

Ja’Kobe Walter / C+ / 27 MIN,9 PTS,7 REB,3 AST,3-8 FG,3-8 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,18 +/-

He was effective across the floor and nailed some pretty big threes, but his scoring wasn’t as effective compared to his last game against the Celtics. What did save his game tonight, however, was his rebounding, especially from the defensive end, but I don’t know if it is enough for 26 minutes of play.

Colin Murray-Boyles / B+/ 20 MIN,6 PTS,8 REB,1 AST,3-7 FG,0-0 3FG,0-0 FT,2 BLK,0 TO,17 +/-

Was a very noticeable presence all game. Extremely physical, and one thing that stood out to me was a great rebound and quick pass that led to a Ja’Kobe Walter three. I honestly wish that he had been played a bit more in this game, as I actually would’ve liked to have seen what he could do with his style alongside the starters.

Jamison Battle / Inc / 3 MIN,4 PTS,0 REB,1 AST,2-3 FG,0-1 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,1 +/-

Shot really well with the minutes he got; otherwise, he played mainly garbage time.

Jonathan Mogbo / Inc / 3 MIN,0 PTS,1 REB,0 AST,0-0 FG,0-0 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,1 +/-

Garbage time

Gradey Dick / Inc / 3 MIN,4 PTS,1 REB,0 AST,1-2 FG,0-0 3FG,2-2 FT,0 BLK,1 TO,1 +/-

Nice dunk in garbage time

Trayce Jackson-Davis / Inc / 3 MIN,0 PTS,0 REB,0 AST,0-0 FG,0-0 3FG,0-0 FT,0 BLK,0 TO,1 +/-

Garbage Time

Darko Rajakovic (A)

He made some interesting moves early, but they seemed to play out. He let Shead get a lot of minutes over quickly, and it honestly seemed to play out well, considering he dropped 11 assists tonight. However, I do wish that he had let CMB get more reps than the 19:57 that he ended up getting tonight, but I understand holding him back on his first game back from injury.

Things we saw:

  1. In a potential playoff matchup for the Raptors, the big names showed up tonight, and that’s exactly what the team needed.
  2. The play got a little sloppy at times, and that definitely needs to be cleaned up before the playoffs begin.

Your next read: Samson Folk and Louis Zatzman detail Scottie Barnes’ recent play, especially in transition, and how he is labeled the de facto “point guard.” Read (and listen) here:

Barnes has been seeing nearly 10 more backcourt touches a game during this stretch, and that means he gets to make early clock decisions. Do you want a hit ahead? An outlet? Do you want a big ol’ super computer pressuring the rim in transition? They’ve all been good options.
