Siena transfer Gavin Doty commits to Syracuse
By JAMES MADDEN
New Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara has landed his first transfer portal commitment with the Orange.
Siena transfer Gavin Doty is headed to Syracuse and following McNamara, who was hired by the Orange following Siena’s NCAA Tournament appearance, Doty announced on X.
A 6-foot-5 guard originally from upstate New York, Doty averaged 18 points and 6.9 rebounds per game this season, leading the Saints to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010.
He notably led a shorthanded Siena team to a double-digit second half lead against No. 1 Duke, before the Blue Devils avoided being on the wrong side of history in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. He tallied 21 points and four rebounds in Siena’s loss to Duke.
In two games against high-major opponents, Doty averaged 18.5 points per game for the Saints.
He is Syracuse’s first commit in the transfer portal and its second of the week, joining Slovenian forward Mark Morano Mahmutovic, who committed to the Orange on Monday.
