Toronto Raptors sign Tyreke Key

0 0

The Toronto Raptors have announced on Monday that they have signed guard Tyreke Key. After showing out this past season in the 905, Key will be getting his rewarded shot in the NBA.

At 6-foot-2 and 207 pounds, Key has carved out a reputation as a reliable and efficient scorer during his time with Raptors 905. Over 47 appearances this season, which includes a total of 16 starts, Key has posted averages of 14.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting an impressive 51.4 percent from the field.

Key’s ability to stretch the floor was equally notable, connecting on 40 percent of his shots from beyond the arc while maintaining strong discipline at the line with an 86 percent free-throw mark.

Throughout this season, Key has demonstrated some standout performances. He has scored in double-figures in 33 of the 47 games he has played. Within those games, he has notched 20 or more points 13 times, being a vital reason for the Raptors 905 success. With those numbers, he has helped the 905 earn the number one seed in the league’s Tip-Off Tournament, reach the 2025 G League Winter Showcase Final, and clinch a playoff berth.

Key arrived at Raptors 905 ahead of the 2024–25 campaign following a season overseas in Belgium. Before arriving there, he built his resume at Indiana State from 2017 to 2021, where he earned two All-MVC First Team selections, and later wrapped up his college career at Tennessee as a fifth-year senior in 2022–23.

This move by the Raptors makes sense as they are looking for a spark to avoid the NBA’s play-in tournament. Key Joins a Raptors squad that is currently slotted in the seventh seed with a 43-35 record, tied with the Philadelphia 76ers who currently holds the tiebreaker.
