Slovenian forward Mark Morano Mahmutovic commits to Syracuse
By JAMES MADDEN
New Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara has landed his first commitment since being hired by the Orange last month.
Syracuse got a commitment from Slovenian forward Mark Morano Mahmutovic early Monday morning, Jonathan Givony first reported.
Mahmutovic, a 6-foot-7 wing, plays for Kansai Helios Domzale in the Slovenian Basketball League, where he averages 13.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
In last summer’s FIBA U18 Eurobasket, while playing for the Slovenian National Team, Mahmutovic was the second-leading scorer for the entire tournament, averaging 20.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Mahmutovic is Syracuse’s first commit in the class of 2026, with multiple former Siena players and commits expected to follow McNamara when the transfer portal opens on Tuesday.
