INDIANAPOLIS —The coaching carousel doesn’t stop for anything in college basketball, not even the Final Four. But Arizona’s head coach Tommy Lloyd is doing everything to avoid distracting himself and his team from their goal of winning a national championship.
“I got my full focus on this team,” Lloyd said in response to rumors of him coaching at North Carolina next season. “Nothing is distracting me…I’m 100% locked in on Arizona basketball right now, and I’m excited to see what this team can do.”
To get to the title game, Arizona will have to face off against Michigan on Saturday, April 4 at 8:49 P.M. EST. The two programs have been ranked in the top three in all of college basketball for the entire season and entered the tournament as some of the favorites to win it all.
“I am kind of just one thing at a time. I’m not a multitasker,” Lloyd continued. “You can ask my wife. I’m 100 percent locked in on Arizona basketball right now, and I’m excited to see what this team can do.I have a real strong belief in this team, and this team deserves my full attention, so that’s what I’m giving them.”
Jason Gardner, the former Arizona star and current Director of Player Relations, said the rumors linking Lloyd to North Carolina “is a little bit of a part of the business….You never know what’s talked about, what’s happened, so I think the great thing Tommy’s done, what the players have done, is kind of blocked everything out, and really the whole focus is just Saturday.”
