Syracuse, Providence to meet at TD Garden in Boston
By JAMES MADDEN
A battle between two former rivals in the Big East is headed for the TD Garden in Boston.
Syracuse and Providence will be facing off in Boston, according to reports. Jon Rothstein reported the news first.
Both programs are coming off consecutive down years and will have new coaches for the 2026-27 season.
Syracuse will be led by its former legendary point guard and Siena head coach Gerry McNamara, who took Siena to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and was minutes away from upsetting No. 1 Duke in the first round. The Saints lost to top-ranked Duke 71-65 on Thursday.
Providence will be in new coach Bryan Hodgson’s first season after he spent two seasons at Arkansas State and one at South Florida, in which he reached the NCAA Tournament and drew a No. 6 seed.
The two programs haven’t met since Syracuse departed the Big East in 2013, with their last meeting coming on February 20, 2013, which was an 84-59 Syracuse win.
