Bay Area News Group high school basketball predictions: Feb. 11 2026
After taking a week off to cover the Super Bowl, the Bay Area News Group high school team is back to make some more basketball picks.
All in good fun, of course.
The East Bay Athletic League boys and girls championships will take place on Friday. While the championship game field is still unclear until Wednesday’s semifinals take place, the guys made their picks for who they think will get crowned with a league title.
Darren Sabedra, Christian Babcock and Nathan Canilao all agree San Ramon Valley will take home the EBAL girls title, but differed on who will win the boys championship.
Sabedra and Babcock believe top-seeded De La Salle will take home the league championship while Canilao believes No. 2 Dougherty Valley has all the right stuff to pull off an upset.
“Last week, I would have went with De La Salle but I think De La Salle is still figuring some things out,” Canilao said. “Dougherty Valley lost to Dublin last Friday, but I think the Wildcats have been pretty consistent throughout the EBAL season and I think coach Mike Hansen really wants this one.”
Elsewhere, the guys decided between a girls game between Los Gatos and Los Altos – a rematch of a SCVAL De Anza Division game from a few weeks ago where the Wildcats came out on top.
Sabedra and Canilao were in agreement that Los Gatos would take the season series, but Babcock said he’s taking the Eagles in a rematch.
“I think they just have a little different gear and I think they’re going to be motivated for this one,” Babcock said.
