Syracuse’s Kiyan Anthony does not play for first time: ‘It was just my decision’
By JAMES MADDEN
Syracuse lost another ACC game on Saturday, a 72-59 road defeat to No. 18 Virginia. Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony‘s son, Kiyan, who has served as a regular off the bench this season, remained on the bench for the entirety of Saturday’s loss. Anthony’s inactivity was officially listed as a coach’s decision.
Orange head coach Red Autry has been the recipient of widespread criticism from Syracuse fans this season and said that the decision to keep Anthony on the bench was not injury-related.
“No injury concerns. It was just my decision,” Autry said postgame. “(Virginia) is a physical team, an experienced team and that was just my decision. No narratives about any of this stuff, again I just made a decision.”
Speculation about the decision has been raised online, with this move coming just days after Kiyan’s father commented on the team’s Instagram account, saying “SMFH,” after the Orange’s loss to No. 14 North Carolina on Monday.
Falling to 13-11, the Orange are just 4-7 in ACC play and will return to the floor when they host California on Wednesday in Syracuse.
