Kyle Williams' Super 25 high school girls basketball rankings for Jan. 11, 2026

0 3

The 36th annual Coach Kipp’s Hoopsfest is one of the best events for girls basketball. It’s a great opportunity to watch high-profile teams.

St. Charles East is one of the teams I will be keeping an eye on Saturday. Sophomore Brooklyn Schilb has been one of the most productive players in the area, averaging 22.9 points and 10.4 rebounds. Though she is only 6 feet tall, the rebounds show her determination on the glass.

Games to watch this week

• Bolingbrook vs. Nazareth, 7 p.m. Monday

Nazareth’s only in-state loss was to Benet in December, and the Roadrunners are coming off an impressive defensive performance last week against Carmel in which they held the Corsairs to 23 points.

Nazareth senior Stella Sakalas has been spectacular. Sakalas, who has committed to BYU, is coming off a 22-point effort against Marian Catholic. She also had a double-double (21 points, 14 rebounds) against Carmel.

Freshman Mia Gage also has been impressive as she takes on a role as one of the Roadrunners’ secondary scorers.

• Mother McAuley vs. Providence, 7 p.m. Tuesday

This matchup has big implications in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference.

Providence’s two losses have come against Loyola and Notre Dame (Wisconsin). The Celtics have been one of the most interesting teams to watch because of the length in their starting lineup and the standout play of
senior center Landrie Callahan.

Callahan will present a big test for a Mother McAuley team that doesn’t have much height. Still, the Mighty Macs are feisty and competitive despite that because their guards love to dig down and muck up passing and driving lanes.

Mother McAuley didn’t shoot well when I saw it beat Bloom, but that made the victory all the more impressive.

• Waubonsie Valley vs. Naperville Central, 7 p.m. Thursday

This game will be the highlight of the week.

Naperville Central senior Trinity Jones is flat-out the best player in the state. Her scoring ability is impressive. She has made significant strides as a shooter and is still an unbelievable driver after missing her junior season with an ACL injury. She scored 40 points in the Redhawks’ victory Saturday against Minooka.

Waubonsie Valley boasts one of the best backcourts in the state in seniors Arie Garcia-Evans and Danyella Mporokoso. Garcia-Evans is a tough defender and burgeoning shooter. Mporokoso is one of the most dangerous shooters in the area.

Notes

Providence forward Layken Callahan crossed the 2,000-point milestone.

Fremd senior guard Greta Thompson scored a career-high 32 points in a road victory against Prospect.

Kenwood senior guard Danielle Brooks scored 19 points and had four assists in a victory against Mother McAuley.
