Utah has landed Lucas Langarita – a 6-foot-4 guard from Spain – it was announced on Wednesday. Langarita is 20 years old and it set to reunite with his former coach, Martin Schiller, who joined the Utes’ staff in April. He will be eligible to play for the Utes immediately.

Last summer at the U20 EuroBasket in Greece, Langarita finished the tournament fourth in scoring, averaging 17.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

“We’re excited to welcome Lucas to our program,” Utah head coach Alex Jensen said. “He is a gifted young player who will be a positive addition to our team.”

Through nine games this season with Casademont Zaragoza, he has averaged 16.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in the ACB U22 League.

“After losing a key contributor to injury before the start of the season, our staff worked diligently across the globe to secure a significant mid-year addition,” Utah general manager Wes Wilcox said. “While the timing and his transition from Europe to the NCAA are unique, we’re excited to welcome Lucas to our program as we head into Big 12 play.”

Langarita’s announcement comes on the same day as James Nnaji – who joined Baylor’s roster on Wednesday.
