NYC Guard Slated For West Coast Visit

As a 6-foot-5 and innately wired to score guard, Veritas Academy (CA) Class of 2026 prospect Josh Powell got his big game teeth cut during the embryonic stages of his career.

Playing in a then-loaded CHSAA “AA” New York conference which included matchups against the likes of Stepinac product Boogie Fland (Florida), Ian Jackson (St. John’s) and Elijah Moore (Utah), Powell had his first 20-point and 10-rebound game as a freshman.

He grew up rapidly, discovering his potential as a mid range pull up threat who kept defenders on the move with his off the dribble acumen.

The New York City native was able to navigate the lane with his bulldozing frame, attacking the rim in smooth and powerful fashion.

Powell enhanced his profile and drew Division-I attention, turning in multiple games of four 3-pointers or more during a breakthrough sophomore season.

He wound up leading the conference in scoring that season, averaging 21.4 PPG and engineering powerful game-altering scoring spurts.

He’s been to Phoenix (AZ), playing at Skyline Prep during his junior year.

Now 35 minutes outside of sun-baked Los Angeles and again across the country, Powell will look to close out his career and once again decide on his next hardwood destination.

“I’ve already been to Arizona State, I’ve got a visit to Pacific coming up,” said Powell, who authored scoring outbursts of 27 points against Rens United and 25 points against Team Stigma playing for the NY Jayhawks this summer.

Pacific is now in the WCC, so that’s a cool situation over there. Oklahoma State, I’m planning on visiting there as well.”

Callahan Erupts During NPS: One of the more noteworthy performers during the opening games of the National Prep Showcase at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn. was St. Thomas More (CT) prospect Dillon Callahan.

Knifing his way to the rim and embracing contact, the 6-foot-4 Class of 2027 Callahan scored a team-best 23 points (on 9-for-15 from the field) during STM’s 85-82 victory over Western Reserve.

Callahan, who will be a focal point under Jere Quinn during the legendary coach’s 48th year with the program, followed this performance up with 15 points and four assists during a 97-77 loss to Link Academy on Saturday.
