G-League center Abdullah Ahmed cuts list to two schools, sets announcement date
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
Another G-League prospect is nearing his college decision.
G-League center Abdullah Ahmed announced his recruitment is down to two programs on Friday: BYU and Houston.
The 6-foot-10 big man has scheduled visits to each of the two schools, Houston on Nov. 1 and BYU on Nov. 7. He plans on announcing his decision shortly after his visits on Nov. 10.
Ahmed is the latest example of G-League prospects going to college, following former G-League players London Johnson (Louisville) and Thierry Darlan (Santa Clara).
With the NIL era in full swing, players who have signed professional contracts are no longer considered ineligible for collegiate play, opening the floodgates for both G-League prospects and overseas professionals to play college basketball. Only time will tell how far the rabbit hole goes for professional athletes playing in college.
