2026 Guard To Take Visits, Projects Decision Time

While nothing is ever etched in stone or promised in today’s unpredictable recruiting climate, Class of 2026 point guard Dylan Mingo said he’s projecting to make his final decision at the end of November or early December.

On Tuesday, the five star recruit and Long Island Lutheran (NY)/PSA Cardinals offensive hub said he is looking to take a few more visits.

Oklahoma and NC State probably, those are the two visits I haven’t announced yet,” said Mingo.

Mingo has already visited UConn, Alabama, Miami, Baylor, Penn State, and Washington. North Carolina, who he also plans to visit, is still in the mix.

Penn State, of course is where Mingo’s older brother and former Long Island Lutheran teammate, Kayden Mingo, is currently a freshman.

Kayden Mingo, who enters this season under Mike Rhoades with lofty expectations, is coming off a performance of 18 points (6-for-10 FG) four assists, and three boards during a 78-62 loss to a veteran-laden Dayton team.

“That’s big time,” said Dylan Mingo of Kayden’s noteworthy showing.

“It doesn’t matter which college team you’re playing against, you are pretty much playing against grown men. I think Coach Rhoades is getting him the ball, he’s letting him rock out at the point guard position. (Penn State) will surprise a lot of people (this season).

There’s no surprise, however, in the sustained consistency Penn State has shown in recruiting Dylan Mingo.

A Top-5 national talent and the No.1 point guard and overall player in New York, Mingo recently visited Happy Valley the weekend of September 24th.

He’s been pleased with how Rhoades and the Nittany Lions haven’t emphasized family ties and the prospect of again playing alongside his brother, rather focused on his development and how they see him aligning with the system.

“Obviously my brother goes there, but I feel like they are recruiting me for me. And what they see in me. Kayden has a chance to go to the NBA, that’s the number one goal for him. If he does stay (beyond his freshman season) at Penn State, that would be crazy to play together again.”

Dylan Mingo will look to leave his legacy at LUHI, a national power, subscribing to the same leadership role that Kayden did last year.

Whether it was shouldering a flair for the end game with go-ahead buckets and game winners or laying down and taking a big charge, Kayden Mingo catalyzed the Crusaders with winning plays which navigated a national pressure cooker.

As a big, long point guard who has developed into a prolific scorer/multi-positional defender while subsequently opening up a clutch outside shooting game of his own, Dylan Mingo now inherits some ownership of this LUHI team. He had several convincing performances this summer with the PSA Cardinals, including a 31-point, 10-board showing against Team Herro on the EYBL circuit.

Mingo averaged 24 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds throughout the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp, ultimately garnering Camp MVP honors.
