La Salle has secured a member of the Class of 2027 for its program.

Christ The King (NY) guard Johnny Magna has committed to the Explorers as the first member of their 2027 recruiting class.

He chose La Salle over offers from TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, and Illinois, among others. He drew recent offers from Arizona State and Mississippi State. Utimately his relationship with the La Salle staff endeared him to the Explorers.

“Just the chance to play as a freshman,” Magna said to ZAGSBLOG about what stood out from La Salle. “I loved the coaches so much and created a great bond with all of them.”

La Salle ramped up their recruitment of Magna significantly after his performance at the Nike EYBL Circuit.

At 6-foot-3, Magna was one of the best scorers in the circuit this summer. He led the way for the NY Lightning in scoring, including a head-turning 29-point performance against The Family.

This season, Magna is expected to take on a significantly increased role at Christ The King. He is expected to take over the reigns at the guard position left behind by graduated guards Jayden Ramirez and Markell Alston.

As a product of one of the most storied programs in New York City, Magna will head to Philadelphia to join head coach Darris Nichols in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
