UMass lands 6-foot-9 forward Heimir Helgason

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Heimir Helgason, the 6-foot-9 forward from Daytona Beach (FL) DME Academy who is originally from Iceland, committed to UMass on Thursday, he told ZAGSBLOG.com.

He also visited Wyoming and Duquesne.

“I will be taking my talents to the University of Massachusetts because I see myself developing there a lot and feel comfortable there with the staff,” he said ahead of his public announcement.

“I will be bringing my shooting ability, willingness to defend, and love for the game.”

ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla is a big fan of his game.

He joins 6-10 big man Cheick Sylla of Bridgton Academy (Maine) and 5-11 point guard Cam Hailey of Western Reserve Academy (Mass.) in coach Frank Martin’s 2026 recruiting haul.
