Five-star guard Taylen Kinney commits to Kansas, recruiting others

Five-star guard Taylen Kinney has committed to Kansas, he announced on CBS Sports HQ on Sunday. Kinney – a 6-foot-1 guard from Newport, Ky., is a Top-15 recruit in the class of 2026 and a member of the Overtime Elite program.
He chose the Jayhawks over Indiana, Arkansas, Oregon, Louisville and Kentucky.
“It was a really a no-brainer…I feel like I’m going to be on that stage to be able to get to the league,” Kinney said about his commitment to Kansas.
He also told ZAGSBLOG he’s recruiting Class of 2026 stars Davion Adkins and Tyran Stokes to Kansas.
“Shoot, I already know one that’s coming,” he told Joe Tipton. “Right when I said I was going, I put that call in. I ain’t going to say his name, but he going to announce.
“And then trying to get Tyran.”
The top-ranked point guard in the nation – Kinney is a smooth and versatile combo guard and has the ability to score at every level. Kinney was one of the most highly-coveted recruits in his class, due to his sheer scoring ability and his ability to finish at the rim.
As a playmaker, Kinney is great in pick and roll situations and has drastically improved his playmaking abilities over the past few months. Many scouts credit him with having a high IQ and an incredible feel for the game.
Kinney is an above-average on-ball defender and has some of the best steals numbers on the 3SSB summer circuit this year. Additionally, he is viewed as a good rebounder for his size, but scouts do believe he plays much bigger than his 6-foot-1 frame. With a long wingspan and increased muscle mass, Kinney is a physical threat for any opposing guard.
He is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 13 overall prospect in the class of 2026, and the No. 1 overall point guard. Kinney is Kansas’ first commit in the class of 2026.
