USC star JuJu Watkins set to miss 2025-26 season

BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ

USC’s brightest woman’s basketball will miss all of the upcoming basketball season.

JuJu Watkins will take the season to focus on her recovery from a ACL injury she suffered during the second round in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

“These last few months have been filled with a lot of healing, rest, and reflection,” Watkins said. “Recovering from this injury hasn’t been easy, and I want to say thank you—your love, support, and kind words have truly lifted me up during one of the most challenging times in my life. Because you’ve been with me every step of the way, I wanted you to hear it from me directly that following the advice of my doctors and trainers, I will sit out this season and fully focus on continuing to recover so I can come back to the game I love.”

Watkins was not only one of the biggest stars at USC, but one of the best players in all of women’s college basketball in her sophomore season.

She averaged 23.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

While the Trojans will have to endure without their best player for the next season, Watkins won’t be eligible for the WNBA draft until 2027 so she will likely take the floor for the Trojans once again.
