GB suffer EuroBasket warm up loss to Belgium
Great Britain were unable to overcome Belgium losing 84-72 at the COREtec Dome in Ostend on Friday night in the second game of their EuroBasket preparations.
After being down 26-16 at the end of the first quarter, the British side raised their intensity and energy levels in the second period as they overturned an early ten point deficit to enter halftime with a 39-38 lead.
The Belgians however responded strongly to GB’s run as they came out firing after the interval to regain the lead. Belgium further opened up their gap over GB towards the end of the third and this burst gave them a 67-54 lead heading into the final period.
Ultimately, much of the Brits’ efforts to come back in the fourth were rebuked by the Belgian Lions who finished the game with a comfortable twelve point winning margin, as Marc Steutel’s men eventually came away from the contest having only shot 38% from the field.
Jubrile Belo once again had a solid showing to lead Britain with 15 points in just 16 minutes whilst Myles Hesson and Luke Nelson also had double digit scoring outputs.
Emmanuel Lecomte recorded a game high 18 points off the bench for the Belgian squad and Ismael Bako claimed five rebounds to go along with his 14 points. Mamadou Guisse and Andy Van Vliet also contributed positively with 13 points and 12 points respectively.
Having also lost to France in Pau last week, Great Britain still have three warm up games left against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Estonia as they continue to get ready for this year’s EuroBasket.
